About

I listen, empathize, and guide

A bit about my approach to therapy: I’m a mental health counselor committed to providing psychotherapy to individuals ages 18 years and older who may be struggling with anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, other mood disorders, sleep disturbances, parenting challenges, or life transitions. When providing counseling/psychotherapy to individuals, I use a collaborate person-centered approach. I also use evidenced-based informed treatments, such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Supportive Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Strength-Based Therapy, and Goal-Oriented Therapy to assist my clients to reach their goals. A bit about how I lead a first session: During our first session, I will develop a safe space by sharing about my therapeutic style. First, I will start to gather information about why you are seeking services. Secondly, I will gather information about your strengths, interests, and hobbies. Thirdly, I will ask you what you hope to achieve from therapy. Finally, we will collaboratively develop treatment goals. A bit about a typical therapy session: After completing the initial assessment, ongoing appointments are usually 40-55 minutes, pending your needs. I like to start each session by doing a brief check-in, reviewing any skills/assignments from your last appointment, and sharing my perspective on your use of skills. Then, I let you lead by talking about your challenges, accomplishments, stressors, symptoms, and impact on your day-to-day functioning. As we talk, I will share my insights and skills that may be helpful in managing any challenges and/or symptoms. I will wrap-up the appointment by asking you what skill you want to practice and what was or was not helpful about the appointment, so we can make a plan for your next appointment. A bit about my journey to become a mental health counselor: I took a few detours as I embarked on my journey to become a mental health counselor. Originally, I earned a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature and Secondary Education with hopes of teaching English Language Arts to High School Students. Eventually I learned I was more passionate about working with individuals in 1:1 settings or small groups to overcome their challenges instead of teaching in large classrooms. So, I continued my education at Lesley University and achieved a Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling with a specialty in school and community. While a student at Lesley U., I completed two internships as an outpatient mental health counselor and a school guidance counselor. Since graduating from Lesley, I've worked in different behavioral health settings including outreach, outpatient and inpatient facilities providing family therapy, couples therapy, individual therapy, and crisis intervention treatments. I also worked as an Associate Site Director where I oversaw and supervised staff and interns. I use this experience in my private practice to provide mindful and compassionate care to my clients. If you’re interested in scheduling a brief 15-20 minute complimentary consultation with me, please send an appointment request.
